Ascot Racecourse

Ascot Racecourse is the major racecourse in Perth, Western Australia. It is situated approximately 8 kilometres east of the Perth City Centre opposite the headquarters of the Western Australian Turf Club(WATC).

Ascot Racecourse is regarded as the 'grand old lady' of Australian racecourses. Featuring a 2,000 metre track with modern, well drained turf, and a 300 metre inclining straight regarded by experts as the most severe test of stayers in Australia.

The circumference of Ascot Racecourse is 2022 metres with the straight being 294 metres long. A good cambered home turn and a slight rise from the 400m to the winning post.

Races are held from 1,000 metres up to 2,400 metres with inside barriers having a slight advantage in races over 1,400 metres and 1,500 metres and an advantage over 1,000 metres, 1,100 metres, 1,600 metres and 1,800 metres.

Western Australian Turf Club now known as Perth Racing hosts the Railway Stakes and the Kingston Town Classic, which attract good class horses from the East. The Perth Cup is held on New Years Day with the the WATC Derby in April.
