Warwick Farm Racecourse

Warwick Farm Racecourse is located at Warwick Farm a south-west suburb of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It is used as a racecourse for thoroughbred horse racing and is known for its casual charm and pleasant country hospitality.

In May 1840 the Australian Racing Committee was formed to govern racing, and by January 1842 the Australian Jockey Club was an entity and Homebush was the headquarters of racing in NSW before it moved back to Randwick in 1860. In 1922 the Australian Jockey Club purchased the Warwick Farm Racecourse and undertook a number of improvements. The first meeting under the AJC was held on January 27th, 1925 with 25,000 people in attendance.

The Australian Jockey Club holds around 60 race meetings at two racecourses, the country style setting of Warwick Farm and historic and prestigious Royal Randwick.

Warwick Farm Racecourse is controlled by the Australian Jockey Club, Sydney New South Wales. It has a circumference of 1,937 metres and the straight is only 326 metres long. Front runners do well here due to its sharp turns. Horses coming from behind often run very wide when negotiating these turns.

Starts for 1000m-1400m, the fields only negotiate the bend at the home turn, so barriers do not play as big a role as other tracks.

Warwick Farm Racecourse hosts a signature meeting - Chipping Norton Stakes day in March each year. The Chipping Norton is a race steeped in history with most of Australia's best milers/stayers winning the wfa event. Warwick Farm is best known for its a picnic atmosphere so it is very much a family racetrack.
